Full Advisory Text
Warning Description: Areal Flood Warning

Warning Date: 8:40 PM EDT on July 2, 2009

WarningSum:

Warning Message:The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a
* Flood Warning for small streams in...
southwestern Hartford County in northern Connecticut...
* until 1230 am EDT
* at 833 PM EDT...recent rainfall has resulted in a sharp rise on
the Quinnipiac river in Southington Connecticut. The river
has risen roughly 3 feet in the last 4 hours. It has reached a
stage of 5.8 ft...three tenths of a foot above the flood stage of
5.5 ft. Additional rainfall in this area may result in further
river rises. Law enforcement at 830 PM reported flooding of some
streets near the Quinnipiac in Southington.
A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
However...all interested parties should take necessary precautions
immediately.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. Move to higher ground if you are in an area
which is prone to flooding. Avoid driving through flooded roadways.

Warning Description: Flash Flood Watch

Warning Date: 4:11 PM EDT on July 2, 2009

WarningSum:...Flash Flood Watch Now In Effect Until 11 Pm Edt This Evening...

Warning Message:The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for
* portions of northern Connecticut...Massachusetts...southern
New Hampshire and Rhode Island...including the following
 areas...in northern Connecticut...Hartford CT...Tolland CT and
Windham CT. In Massachusetts...central Middlesex MA...eastern
 Essex MA...eastern Franklin MA...eastern Hampden MA...eastern
Hampshire MA...eastern Norfolk MA...eastern Plymouth MA...
 northern Bristol MA...northern Middlesex MA...northern
Worcester MA...southeast Middlesex MA...southern Bristol MA...
southern Plymouth MA...southern Worcester MA...Suffolk MA...
western Essex MA...western Franklin MA...western Hampden MA...
western Hampshire MA...western Norfolk MA and western Plymouth
MA. In southern New Hampshire...Cheshire NH...eastern
Hillsborough NH and western and central Hillsborough NH. In
 Rhode Island...Bristol RI...eastern Kent RI...Newport RI...
 northwest Providence RI...southeast Providence RI...Washington
 RI and western Kent RI.
* Until 11 PM EDT this evening
* scattered showers and thunderstorms were re-developing late this
afternoon across Connecticut. Expect this activity to mainly affect
interior southern New England this evening. While we do not expect
the widespread flooding we have seen the past few days...localized
flooding with any thunderstorm this evening is certainly possible
with the best chance across Connecticut.
* Expect most of the showers and thunderstorms to come to an end by
late evening across the region...so the Flood Watch will expire at
11 PM. However...additional scattered showers and thunderstorms are
expected to re-develop Friday afternoon. Any of these storms that
develop will be slow moving and have the potential to produce
locally heavy rainfall. Its possible that another Flash Flood Watch
may have to be re-issued for Friday afternoon.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
